# Convert to String

The **Convert to String** node is used to convert a value stored in a variable to a string and store the result in a new variable. This is particularly useful when you need to ensure that numeric, boolean, or other data types are required to be represented as strings for further processing, display, or concatenation with other strings.

### Properties Panel

| **Field**        | **Description**                                                                      | **Required** |
| ---------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ | ------------ |
| Node name        | [Node Name](https://docs.cosmocloud.io/concepts-and-in-depth/flow-builder/node-name) | true         |
| Variable Name | Name of the new variable in which the converted value would be stored | true |
| Value to convert | Values or Variables containing values needs to be converted to string | true |

### Example

Let's say you want to convert variable `$.variables.age` to string.

1. Set `Variable Name` to `age_string`.
2. Set `Value to convert` to `$.variables.age`

It will convert the value present in `$.variable.age`. The variable `$.variables.age_string` will contain the converted value.

### Returns

This node does not return any value, but stores the converted value in a new string variable with name provided in `<Variable Name>` in the flow context.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.cosmocloud.io/flow-builder/node-types/variable-nodes/strings/convert-to-string.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
