# Trim String The **Trim String** node is used to remove any leading and trailing whitespace characters from a string. Whitespace characters include spaces, tabs, and newlines that appear before the first non-whitespace character or after the last non-whitespace character in a string. ### Properties Panel #### General | **Field** | **Description** | **Required** | | ------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ | ------------ | | Node name | [Node Name](https://docs.cosmocloud.io/concepts-and-in-depth/flow-builder/node-name) | true | | Variable Name | Variable name containing string which you want to trim | true | ### Example Let's say you want to remove all the leading and trailing whitespaces in `@wscos@` stored in `$.variables.password`. 1. Set `Variable Name` to `$.variables.password`. It will convert the string in place and store in the same variable.
